Saxton Creek Upgrade
Nelson City Council is notifying the following applications for resource consent:

Resource consent is sought to:
Authorise the activities associated with increasing the flood capacity of the abovementioned 880 metre section of Saxton Creek to Q100 (a 1 in 100 year) flow, completing a walking/cycling pathway along the creek, connecting Saxton Field to Champion Road via the Ngati Rārua Street esplanade pathway, establishing the creek completely within the esplanade reserve and landscaping and planting the esplanade to provide shade and better fish habitat.
The applications have been split into three stages - 3A, 3B, and 3C:
Stage 3A – Includes the construction of approximately 100m of channel, a new bridge to provide access to numbers 3A-D Hill St, the extension of Ngati Rārua Street, footpaths, landscape planting and the driveways to 3A-D Hill St and 25 Hill St.
Stage 3B – is the upgrade of the channel from the eastern side of Saxton Field to immediately downstream from the existing access to 1A Hill St. This stage will include the channel upgrade, footpath construction, landscape planting and timber retaining walls in localised places resulting from the undulating topography on the adjacent land.
Stage 3C - is the upgrade of the channel between Stage 3A and Stage 3B. This stage will include the channel upgrade, footpath construction, landscape planting and short timber retaining walls in localised places resulting from the undulating topography on the adjacent land.
A separate application has been lodged for Stage 3D, which is the construction of a new bridge to replace the existing culvert access to 1A Hill Street.
The following resource consents are sought:
Land Use Consents (RM175439 Stage 3A, RM185003 Stage 3B and RM185013 Stage 3C)
To widen, realign and to fill existing bed of Saxton Creek; remove existing obstructions (including vegetation and gravel) from the bed of Saxton Creek; construct and maintain the bed of Saxton Creek bed and batter protection with rock; disturb the bank of the creek and erect a bridge; remove vegetation and install and remove temporary culverts during construction and enable construction noise that will comply with the construction noise standard NZS 6803:1999 but may exceed the permitted residential and rural limits.
Water Permits (RM175440 Stage 3A, RM185004 Stage 3B, and RM185014 Stage 3C)
To temporarily divert water during construction and maintenance works and temporarily abstract water and groundwater during construction and maintenance.
Discharge Permits: (RM175441 Stage 3A, RM185005 Stage 3B and RM185015 Stage 3C)
Temporarily discharge stormwater to Saxton Creek during construction and maintenance.
