The Nelson City Council is proactively looking at how parking in our three main CBD areas - central Nelson, Tahunanui and Stoke - should be managed over the coming years and we are seeking your views.
The feedback period runs from Thursday 17 April to Tuesday 20 May. Your feedback will help inform The Nelson Parking Strategy 2014-2024. The strategy’s development was included in the Long Term Plan because smart parking management is critical to the successful growth and development of Nelson.
What will the Nelson Parking Strategy be?
The ten-year Nelson Parking Strategy will be a high-level living document with a long term framework and an action plan for managing parking supply and demand. It will align with the broader vision for the city, help with our planning and future budget allocations, and ensure parking is consistent with other Council activities.
It will recognise the continued importance of motor vehicles for access, as well as the need
for a sustainable transport system that provides choice including public transport, cycling and walking.
It will consider parking for cars, bicycles, taxis, service vehicles, and drivers with mobility parking permits, and how you travel in and out of the three business areas, Tahunanui, Stoke, and the main commercial hub, the Nelson CBD.
