Whakatu Nursery Volunteers
Volunteers of all fitness and skill levels are invited to join the Whakatu Nursery Volunteers. Volunteers help the nursery staff with anything from seed cleaning, tubing up, pricking out, and potting up.
It's a great way to contribute to Nelson City’s planting projects, including the iconic summer hanging baskets. You also get to meet new people and take part in your local community.
Starting in February, they meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9am to 12 noon, generally finishing in December with a get-together.
You don't need to commit to every session or be an expert as training is provided. There is no obligation to come along each week or even for the entire length of time each session - it is entirely voluntary but always incredibly helpful.
About The Whakatu Nursery Volunteers
The Whakatu Nursery Volunteers has been going for over 30 years, changing over time in looks and structure. It started as a small group helping children get involved in 'planting up', and now are based solely at the nursery engaged in plant production work. They make a valued contribution to the Nelson City Council's Parks team.
