RWC 2011 efforts to be coordinated by Council steering group
A steering group was established yesterday to coordinate regional activities for Rugby World Cup 2011, New Zealand.
Councillors Aldo Miccio and Pete Rainey were appointed to the steering group, with Clr Miccio named as chair.
The group's role will primarily be as an external coordinating body to bring together tourism, business, and community activities to leverage the potential of the event for Nelson Tasman.
Steering Group Chair Aldo Miccio says, "We want to make sure that all sectors of the community are involved as much as possible in this unique opportunity, one that could see tremendous international exposure for Nelson and lasting economic and tourism benefits. The steering group will be able to provide the necessary guidance to everyone who wants to be involved."
Up to six additional members will be appointed in the coming weeks.
Three official spokespeople were also appointed to address Council's role in RWC 2011: Nelson Mayor Kerry Marshall, Steering Group Chair Aldo Miccio, and Divisional Manager Community Services Susan Coleman.
