Social development activities a priority for Community Investment Fund

The latest community investment funding round has been completed, with $268,000 distributed to 32 successful applicants across the community.

Council recognises the value and contribution that community organisations make towards Nelson’s economy and the rich tapestry of our city. This funding plays an important role in supporting the work of grassroots community groups.

Funding is allocated by a panel made up of four community representatives and one Council staff member. The fund distributes around $300,000 a year, with $50,000 for small-scale projects, to organisations with a focus on social development activities that support the well-being of the wider Nelson community.

Interest was shown from a wide range of not-for-profit organisations and funding has been allocated for projects that support youth, older adults, people with disabilities, new parents and newcomers to Nelson. Many of these community groups have received funding over three years which gives them some financial certainty and reduces the burden of completing funding applications each year.

The applications have provided a great insight into the positive and beneficial work taking place in our community.

The small grants funding round is currently open until 17 August.
