Council is investigating an oil spill which affected the Nelson Marina. Oil, possibly pumped from a vessel’s bilge, was found in the Nelson Marina early Monday, 1 October. The spill is believed to have occurred between 7pm and 2am on the night of Sunday 30 September.
The public can now have a say on the issue of gambling in our city with the opening of a month long consultation period on the draft Gambling Policy.
At its meeting yesterday, Council approved the creation of extra camping areas to manage the significant number of visitors people who are expected to attend the Bay Dreams music festival.
At today’s meeting, Council requested that a policy be developed for workshops, and that the use of live-streaming video be considered as part of that policy. This followed an earlier request from the Mayor in May 2017 when she had sought direction on developing a policy from Councillors.
Nelson City Council will receive a total of $500,000 from the Tourism Infrastructure Fund to be split between two public toilet improvement projects.

Nelson City Council has funding of $187,200 from the Ministry for Primary Industries Hill Country Erosion Fund, approved. The funding will be used to work with landowners on land management for lifestyle blocks and farms in the Wakapuaka area.
Finalists for the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Awards 2018 have just been released and Nelson City Council is proud to announce that Upper Trafalgar Street ‘A street to go to – not through’ is a finalist for the Best Street Award!
At the meeting on Tuesday, the Audit Risk and Finance committee endorsed Council’s position to support an external review of capital projects, with a focus on the Greenmeadows Centre Project.
