Approved Temporary Road Closures - St Vincent Culvert Upgrade

Nelson City Council has received a proposal from Tasman Civil to temporarily close the following road/s to ordinary traffic between the dates listed below:

The closures are for the St Vincent Street stormwater culvert upgrade.

NIGHTWORKS

  • St Vincent Street/Halifax Street/Haven Road Roundabout
  • Halifax Street - between the Roundabout and Rutherford Street

Date and time of scheduled closure: Monday 18 August to Wednesday 20 August 2025 - 7:30 pm to 7:00 am (the roads will be closed overnight only - open during the day)

Contingency dates and times when closure may occur: Wednesday 20 August to Friday 22 August 2025 - 7:30pm to 7:00 am (the roads will be closed overnight only - open during the day)

The closure is for the deconstruction of the roundabout in preparation for the upgrade of the St Vincent Street stormwater culvert.

  • Vehicle access for residents/businesses or late deliveries will be made available – please follow the directions of onsite staff. Delays are possible.
  • Access will be available from the Haven Road end of the closure.
  • Access into Halifax Street will be available from the Rutherford Street end of Halifax Street.
  • No access will be available from the St Vincent Street end of the closure.
  • No roadside parking will be available within the closure zone.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained safely at all times.
  • As this is a night closure the eBus will not be affected and will operate as normal.

STAGE 1

  • St Vincent Street - between Halifax Street and Haven Road

Date and time of scheduled closure: Wednesday 20 August to Tuesday 16 September 2025 - starting at 7:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour closure)

Contingency dates and times when closure may occur: Wednesday 17 September 2025 to Monday 31 August 2026 - starting at 7:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour closure)

  • Vehicle access for businesses will be made available – please follow the directions of onsite staff. Delays are possible.
  • Couriers / deliveries will be assisted by onsite staff.
  • No roadside parking will be available within the closure zone.
  • Rubbish and recycling bins will be collected as normal – with the assistance of onsite staff.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained safely.

STAGE 2

  • Halifax Street - between Haven Road and Rutherford Street

DELAYED - START DATE IS NOW TUESDAY 23 SEPTEMBER 2025

Date and time of scheduled closure: Wednesday 17 September to Friday 19 December 2025 – starting at 7:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour closure)

Contingency dates and times when closure may occur: Saturday 20 December 2025 to Monday 31 August 2026 – starting at 7:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour closure)

  • Vehicle access for businesses will be available – from the Rutherford Street end of the closure - please follow the directions of onsite staff.
  • Couriers / deliveries will be assisted by onsite staff.
  • Some roadside parking will be available.
  • Rubbish and recycling bins will be collected as normal – with the assistance of onsite staff.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained safely.
  • The Route 2 eBus will be detoured for the duration of the closure – please see ebus.nz for further information.

STAGE 3

St Vincent Street - between Halifax Street and Hastings Street

Date and time of scheduled closure: Monday 5 January to Wednesday 24 June 2026 - starting at 7:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour closure)

Contingency dates and times when closure may occur: Thursday 25 June to Monday 31 August 2026 - starting at 7:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour closure)

  • Vehicle access for businesses within the closure will be made available – please follow the directions of onsite staff. Delays are possible.
  • Access into the section of Haven Road next to Anzac Park will be available from the Rutherford Street end.
  • Couriers/deliveries for within the closure will be assisted by onsite staff.
  • No roadside parking will be available within the closure zone.
  • Rubbish and recycling bins will be collected as normal – with the assistance of onsite staff.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained safely.
