Approved Temporary Road Closure - Bridge Street West

Nelson City Council has received a proposal from Isaac Construction to temporarily close the following road/s to ordinary traffic between the dates listed below:

Bridge Street West - between Trafalgar Street and Rutherford Street

Date and time of scheduled closure: Monday 2 March to Monday 30 November 2026 – starting at 6:30 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour closure)

Contingency dates and times when closure may occur: Tuesday 1 December to Friday 11 December 2026 – starting at 6:30 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour closure)

The closure is for infrastructure upgrades as part of the Bridge to Better Project. This includes upgrades to underground services, re-surfacing, and associated streetscape improvements.

• Vehicle access for through traffic will not be available – vehicles will be detoured, and customer parking will be available on nearby streets and in the Montgomery Square and Wakatu Square carparks.
• Access for large deliveries, business owners and couriers will be made available as required – please coordinate with onsite staff. Delays are possible.
• Rubbish and recycling bins will be collected as normal with the assistance of onsite staff.
• Pedestrian access will be maintained safely to all businesses on Bridge Street.
• The Late Late eBus (Route 8) will be diverted via Rutherford/Halifax Street and the bus stop at 'Trafalgar Street at Westpac' will be closed for the duration of this closure. Please see eBus.nz for any further information.

This proposal is made in accordance with the Local Government Act 1974. Unauthorised use of vehicles on the road during the closure period is not permitted and may constitute an offence.
