Approved Temporary Road Closure - Morrison Street

Nelson City Council has received a proposal from Scott Construction to temporarily close the following road/s to ordinary traffic between the dates listed below:

Morrison Street – full length (including footpath)

Date and time of scheduled closure: Monday 2 March 2026 to Friday 17 December 2027 – starting at 8:00 am on the first day and ending at 5:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour closure)

Contingency dates and times when closure may occur: Saturday 18 December 2027 to Friday 31 March 2028 – starting at 8:00 am on the first day and ending at 5:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour closure)

The closure is to safely facilitate the construction, and redevelopment works at Morrison Square.

• Vehicle access will not be available – affected businesses will be kept informed and assisted with access and courier deliveries by onsite staff.
• The footpath alongside Morrison Street will be closed and there will be no pedestrian access through Morrison Square during this time.
• Pedestrian access to the side doors of 244 & 254 Hardy Street will be maintained.
• Parking within the square will not be available.
• At certain stages of construction affected parking spaces and the footpath on Selwyn Place will be closed for safety reasons.
• Rubbish and recycling bin collection will be managed via the Morrison Laneway.

This proposal is made in accordance with the Local Government Act 1974. Unauthorised use of vehicles on the road during the closure period is not permitted and may constitute an offence.
