Approved Temporary Road Closure - Nelson Street Race Event 2027

Nelson Street Race 2027 event road closures were approved by the Council Regulatory Process Panel on 13 August 2026.

Nelson City Council has received a proposal from Nelson Street Race Inc to temporarily close the following roads to ordinary traffic for the date/s listed below.
- Vickerman Street – full length
- Wildman Avenue – between Vickerman Street and Hay Street
- Carkeek Street – full length
- Rogers Street – full length
- Duncan Street – full length
Date and time of scheduled closure: Saturday 2 January 2027 – 5:00 am to 8:00 pm
- This is for the Nelson Street Race Event – a Motorcycle Street Race
- The event will be held between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm
- The roads will be closed, and access will be unavailable during this time, except in an emergency.
- Vehicle access to the Northern section of Vickerman Street (from no.112 Northwards) can be made available to residents/businesses by prior arrangement – please contact us for details.

This proposal is made in accordance with the Local Government Act 1974. Unauthorised use of vehicles on the road during the closure period is not permitted and may constitute an offence.
