Approved Temporary Road Closure - Wakatu Lane

Nelson City Council has received a proposal from Asphalt & General to temporarily close the following road/s to ordinary traffic between the dates listed below:
Wakatu Lane - between Trafalgar Street and Wakatu Square carpark
Date and time of scheduled closure: Monday 31 August to Friday 18 September 2026 – starting at 8:00 am on the first day and ending at 5:00 pm on the last day (24-hour a day closure)
Contingency dates and times when closure may occur: Contingency is included in the dates above.
The closure is for the reinstallation of the raised pedestrian crossings.
- Vehicle access for residents/businesses, couriers and home help will not be available – please use Achilles Avenue to enter/exit Wakatu Square carpark.
- Delays are likely.
- Rubbish and recycling bins will be collected as normal - with access via Achilles Avenue.
- Pedestrian access will be provided safely.
Council would like to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding when road closures occur.
This proposal is made in accordance with the Local Government Act 1974. Unauthorised use of vehicles on the road during the closure period is not permitted and may constitute an offence.
