Approved Temporary Road Closure - Paru Paru Road

A full road closure will be in place on Paru Paru Road next week from Monday 24 to Tuesday 1 September 2026 (24-hours a day)

Due to the Bad Weather Kumanu is having to working into their contingency dates and now won't be opening until Tuesday 1 September 2026.

Nelson City Council has received a proposal from Kūmānu to temporarily close the following road/s to ordinary traffic between the dates listed below:

Paru Paru Road - between no.7 and the entrance to the Trafalgar Centre carpark

Date and time when closures MAY occur: Monday 10 August to Monday 21 September 2026 – 6:00 am to 6:00 pm

• There will be two 5-day closures within this period (due to the nature of the work - the closures will be in place 24-hours a day).
• Affected businesses will receive notification 24 hours prior to each closure.

Contingency dates and times when closure may occur: Contingency is included in the dates above

The closure is for installation of a new sewer main.

• Vehicle access for residents/businesses & couriers within the closure will be maintained via traffic management on Paru Paru Road – please follow the directions of onsite staff.
• The small carpark adjacent to 16 Paru Paru Road will be closed.
• Access to the Trafalgar Centre main carpark will be via a Saltwater Creek Lane detour (see map above).
• No roadside parking will be available.
• Rubbish and recycling bins will be collected as normal.
• Pedestrian access will be provided safely at all times

This proposal is made in accordance with the Local Government Act 1974. Unauthorised use of vehicles on the road during the closure period is not permitted and may constitute an offence.
