Approved Temp Road Closure - St Vincent, Halifax, Haven Intersection

ROAD CLOSURES EXTENDED FOLLOWING WEATHER RELATED DELAYS EXPERIENCED IN AUGUST

Nelson City Council has approved a proposal from Tasman Civil to temporarily close the following road/s to ordinary traffic between the dates listed below:

The closures are for the installation of Traffic Lights at the intersection of St Vincent Street, Halifax Street & Haven Road.

STAGE 1 – ROAD CLOSURE

  • St Vincent Street - between Halifax Street and Hastings Street

Date and time closure may occur: Tuesday 1 September to Friday 18 September 2026 – starting at 6:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (24-hour a day closure)

Contingency dates and times when closure may occur: Saturday 19 September to Friday 11 December 2026 – starting at 6:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (24-hour a day closure)

  • Vehicle access for businesses within the closure will be made available – please follow the directions of onsite staff. Delays are possible.
    • Access into the section of Haven Road next to Anzac Park will be available from the Vanguard Street end.
  • Couriers/deliveries for within the closure will be assisted by onsite staff.
  • No roadside parking will be available within the closure zone.
  • Rubbish and recycling bins will be collected as normal – with the assistance of onsite staff.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained safely.

STAGE 2 – LANE CLOSURE

Date and time LANE closure may occur: Friday 28 August to Tuesday 10 November 2026 – starting at 6:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (24-hour a day closure)

Contingency dates and times LANE closure may occur: Wednesday 11 November to Friday 11 December 2026 – starting at 6:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (24-hour a day closure)

  • The Route 2 eBus may be detoured via Trafalgar Street/State Highway 6 for the duration of this closure – please see ebus.nz for further information.

STAGE 3 – ROAD CLOSURE

  • Halifax Street - between Haven Road and Rutherford Street

Date and time closure may occur: Friday 11 September to Tuesday 10 November – starting at 6:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (24-hour a day closure)

Contingency dates and times closure may occur: Wednesday 11 November to Friday 11 December 2026 – starting at 6:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (24-hour a day closure)

  • Vehicle access for businesses will be available most of the time – from the Rutherford Street end of the closure - please follow the directions of onsite staff.
  • Vehicle access to Saltwater Creek Lane will be unavailable for a period of approximately 2 weeks within this timeframe while new pavement is installed on Halifax Street.
  • Couriers / deliveries will be assisted by onsite staff.
  • Some roadside parking will be available.
  • Rubbish and recycling bins will be collected as normal – with the assistance of onsite staff.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained safely.
  • The Route 2 eBus may be detoured via Trafalgar Street/State Highway 6 for the duration of the closure – please see ebus.nz for further information.

STAGE 4 – ROAD CLOSURE

  • St Vincent Street - between Halifax Street and Haven Road

Date and time closure may occur: Tuesday 3 November to Monday 16 November 2026 – starting at 6:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour a day closure)

Contingency dates and times closure may occur: Tuesday 17 November to Friday 11 November 2026 – starting at 6:00 am on the first day and ending at 6:00 pm on the last day (this is a 24-hour a day closure)

  • Vehicle access for businesses will be made available – please follow the directions of onsite staff. Delays are possible.
  • Couriers / deliveries will be assisted by onsite staff.
  • No roadside parking will be available within the closure zone.
  • Rubbish and recycling bins will be collected as normal – with the assistance of onsite staff.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained safely.

STAGE 5 – ROAD CLOSURE - NIGHTWORKS

  • St Vincent Street/Halifax Street/Haven Road intersection
  • Halifax Street - between the intersection and Rutherford Street

Date and time closure may occur: Monday 9 November to Friday 20 November 2026 – 7:30 pm to 7:00 am (the roads will be closed overnight only – open during the day)

Contingency dates and times closure may occur: Saturday 21 November to Friday 11 December 2026 – 7:30pm to 7:00 am (the roads will be closed overnight only – open during the day)

  • Vehicle access for residents/businesses or late deliveries will be made available – please follow the directions of onsite staff. Delays are possible.
  • Access will be available from the Haven Road end of the closure.
  • Access into Halifax Street will be available from the Rutherford Street end of Halifax Street.
  • No access will be available from the St Vincent Street end of the closure.
  • No roadside parking will be available within the closure zone.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained safely at all times.
  • As this is a night closure the eBus will not be affected and will operate as normal.

This proposal is made in accordance with the Local Government Act 1974. Unauthorised use of vehicles on the road during the closure period is not permitted and may constitute an offence.
