(Proposed) Temporary Road Closure - Nelson Santa Parade 2026

Nelson City Council has received a proposal from the Santa Parade Reloaded Trust to temporarily close the below roads to ordinary traffic. The dates and times are listed below.

Sunday 29 November 2026 - 5:00 am to 2:00 pm

• Montgomery Square Carpark and entrances

Sunday 29 November 2026 - 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

• Park Street
• Church Street
• Hardy Street – between Rutherford Street and Morrison Street

Sunday 29 November 2026 – 10:30 am to 4:00 pm

• Trafalgar Street – between Hardy Street and Grove Street - including access to Trafalgar Park Lane, Trafalgar Carpark, Wakatu Lane, New Street, Halifax Street
• Hathaway Terrace

Sunday 29 November 2026 – 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm

• Bridge Street – at the intersection with Trafalgar Street
• Halifax Street - at the intersection with Trafalgar Street

Contingency date and time: Sunday 13 December 2026 - same times as above.

• The event will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday 29 November 2026
• The parade will start from Montgomery Square and finish at Trafalgar Carpark.
• The roads will be closed - and access will be unavailable, except in an emergency.
• Access for residents of Hathaway Terrace and Hathaway Court will be provided when safe to do so. Delays are likely.
• The eBus will be impacted by these closures – please see eBus.nz for further information.

To understand how this closure could impact residents/businesses, Council is seeking feedback on this proposal by 12:00 pm on 9 September 2026
