(Proposed) Temporary Road Closure - Songer Street & Putaitai Street

TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE PROPOSAL - NIGHTWORKS

Nelson City Council has received a proposal from Fulton Hogan to temporarily close the following road/s to ordinary traffic between the dates listed below:

The closure is for a watermain upgrade and asphalt resurfacing works to be completed at night, to minimise disruption to daytime traffic.

STAGE 1: Songer Street - between no.228 and Main Road Stoke

Date and time of scheduled closure: Sunday 27 September to Thursday 8 October 2026 – 7:00 pm to 7:00 am (NIGHTWORKS)

STAGE 2: Putaitai Street - between the Woolworths accessway and Main Road Stoke

Date and time of scheduled closure: Thursday 8 October to Sunday 11 October 2026 – 7:00 pm to 7:00 am (NIGHTWORKS)

Contingency dates and times when closure may occur: Monday 12 October to Thursday 15 October 2026 – 7:00 pm to 7:00 am (NIGHTWORKS)

• Vehicle access for residents/businesses, couriers and home help will not be available – please follow the detour signs and directions of onsite staff.
• Lane closures on Main Road Stoke will begin at the Songer Street intersection and move north towards Putaitai Street as works progress.
• Temporary traffic lights on Main Road Stoke will manage alternating traffic flow.
• Roadside parking will generally remain available - except when no-parking cones are placed to allow for resurfacing of parking areas.
• Woolworths and Strawbridge Square access will be maintained via the Neale Avenue end of Putaitai Street.
• Lane closures will also be in place on the eastern side of the Songer Street intersection.
• Rubbish and recycling bins will be collected as normal.
• Pedestrian access will be provided safely at all times.
• The eBus will not be affected – the road will close each evening after the last scheduled eBus services of the day. Please see eBus.nz for updates.

To understand how this closure could impact residents/businesses, Council is seeking feedback on this proposal by 23 September 2026
