Red House deconstruction to start

Red-stickered since the August 2022 weather event, work to remove the Red House on Rocks Road is scheduled to start on Monday, 4 May.

The house was the last property to be settled as part of Council’s plan to buy out 16 properties damaged by the August 2022 storm.

This was made possible due to a $6 million contribution from central government that Councillors voted to accept during the 2024 Long Term Plan (LTP).

Work is scheduled to last four weeks. Minimal disruption to Rocks Road traffic is expected due to this work, and drivers should be aware that there will be some extra vehicle movements at the site while it takes place.
