Supplementary Plates

Quick reminder for those heading out on adventures with bikes on their vehicles:

If your bike rack hides your number plate (while driving or stationary), you need a supplementary plate attached and clearly visible.

We'd much rather the potential cost of a fine go towards a new bike, so here's the info!

This includes:

• Bike racks (loaded or unloaded, if they obscure the plate)

• Tow bars with attachments blocking the plate

• Any accessory or load that covers the standard plate

• Trailers, caravans, or any towed vehicle need their own primary registration plate

Hiring a car with a rack? Ask the hire company - it's their job to sort one for you.

Important: Cardboard plates are not legal (sorry!)

A handwritten or cardboard copy of your plate doesn’t meet the legal requirement. You need an official supplementary plate.
