Election key dates
4 July: Nominations open
10 July: Māori Electoral Option Closes
11 July: Pre-election Period starts
16 July: Candidate Briefing with EO
1 August: Nominations close at 12 noon
9 September to 11 October: Special voting period
11 October: Close of voting at 12 noon / Progress results available (usually mid-afternoon)
12 October: Preliminary results announced
Approx 16 October: Final results announced, Official declaration
Late October: Inaugural Meeting of Council
Approx 11 December: Candidate expenses deadline (date depends on official publication of final results)

The following events are those Council is aware of and may not represent a full list. If you are an organiser of a meet-the-candidate event, please email elections@ncc.govt.nz your event details so we can list it here on our page.
Upcoming events
1) Meet-the-candidates event - 4 September
You are warmly invited to attend and participate in a meet-the-candidates session organised by Nelsust. All attending candidates will respond to a set of questions prepared by Nelsust, focused on transport and climate change. There will be live entertainment and supper, plus a chance for the audience to submit written questions.

Time: 7pm
Venue: Victory Community Centre (koha entry)
2) Election debate/meet-the-candidates - 11 September
You are warmly invited to attend an election debate and meet-the-candidates event, organised by the Public Service Association. Come along to hear from candidates standing for the mayoral, councillor 'at-large' and the Māori ward positions at the Beachside in Tāhunanui.
Date: Thursday, 11 September
Time: Doors open 5pm | Debate kicks off 6pm
Venue: Kotaku Room - Beachside Conference and Events Centre
Candidate information briefing session
A candidate information session was held on Wednesday, 16 July 2025.
