Voting System for 2028

At its meeting on 3 September 2026, Nelson City Council resolved the following:

"That the Nelson City Council agrees, in accordance with section 27 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, that the electoral (voting) system for the 2028 and 2031 local authority elections will be Single Transferable Vote (STV)"

Nelson City Council electors have the right to demand a poll on the electoral system to be used at the next two triennial general elections (2028 and 2031) for Nelson City Council. To find out more, click here
