Tāhunanui Slump Monitoring
Nelson City Council has taken over the monitoring equipment originally installed by the Earthquake Commission (EQC)/NIWA at the Tahunanui slump site as part of their assessments following the severe weather event in August 2022.
Monitoring is now managed on Council’s behalf by Tonkin + Taylor (T+T), who produce an annual report tracking changes in the area.
This is an exciting step forward—having regular, ongoing monitoring at key points will help build a clearer picture of how the slump is changing over time.
Council is committed to making this information accessible to the public, as it plays an important role in understanding and responding to land movement in the area.
