Traffic and Parking Bylaw
Bylaws are rules or regulations made by Council, under national legislation, that affect different aspects of public life in the local community.
Under the Local Government Act 2002, Council has general bylaw making powers for the following purposes:
- Protecting the public from nuisance
- Protecting, promoting and maintaining public health and safety
- Minimising the potential for offensive behaviour in public places.
The Nelson City Council Traffic and Parking Bylaw 2023 is to regulate and set requirements for the control and parking of vehicles and other traffic (including pedestrian traffic) on any road, and for any objects or other things on any road. It came into force on 3 November 2023.
This Bylaw revokes the Nelson City Council Parking and Vehicle Control Bylaw 2011. However, the schedules of the Nelson City Council Parking and Vehicle Control Bylaw 2011 remain in force.
