The Council charges cover the exclusive right of burial, digging and filling in of the grave, inspection of the headstone or plaque to ensure it complies with maintenance requirements, and a percentage of the ongoing cost of cemetery upkeep. Most people pay for this through the funeral director, rather than directly to council. The full cost of running the cemeteries is subsidised from the rates as part of the community's responsibility to provide this service.
Cemetery Fees for 2026/2027
Information:
- Cemetery fees are reviewed each year on 1 July. The fee you pay will be based on the rates in effect on the date your interment, cremation, or plot purchase takes place.
- Cemetery hours for interments are Monday - Friday 10:00am - 3:30pm and Saturday & Sunday 10:00am - 2:00pm.
Weekend and out of hours interments are with operator approval only and incur additional fees as per below.
No burials can take place on Sundays; however, ash interments are permitted.
No interments can take place on public holidays. - Adult is any person over the age of 12.
Child is any person between the age 1 - 12 years.
Infant is any person/fetus under the age of 1 year old. - All fees include GST and are invoiced.
Plot fees are invoiced prior to issuing certificate of purchase
Interment fees are invoiced after the interment has taken place.
Cremation fees are invoiced after the cremation has taken place.

Crematorium Information:
Crematorium hours are as following:
Summer: Monday - Friday 09:00am - 3.00pm
Winter: Monday - Friday 09:00am - 2:00pm
The last booking is at 3:00pm in summer and 2:00pm in winter.
This ensures all services are completed by 6:00pm in summer and 5:00pm in winter, in line with our resource consent requirements.
Weekend cremations are available with operator approval only and will need to be booked prior to the day.
No cremations can take place on a public holiday.
