Inundation Practice Note

This document explains how to determine minimum ground and/or floor levels for subdivision, new buildings and major alterations in areas identified as being subject to seawater and/or freshwater inundation within the Nelson District.

The document comprises of two key parts:

• Section 2: A ‘how to’ guide which summarises the processes and information required to determine minimum ground and/or floor levels.
• Sections 3-7: Supporting information which provides further explanation for the methodology used and other factors which should be considered when determining levels including building servicing, building use and hazard tolerance, and Building Act 2004 s73 hazard notices.

Please note: Tasman District Council has completed a Tasman-specific update of the Inundation Practice. The 2019 Inundation Practice Note linked below only applies in the Nelson district.
