Lids are excluded from our kerbside recycling collections because usually they are too small to make it through the sorting process, or they trap food and liquids in containers or are made of a different material from the container.
However, if you are dropping recycling off at our Waste Recovery Centre in Tāhunanui, there is a collection bucket for metal lids such as jam jar lids, etc.
Small aluminium items such as wine bottle lids are a great resource which can be used for fundraising for charitable causes.
Our local Lions clubs collect bottle lids, can tabs, coffee pods (in fact any small aluminium item) for the Kan Tabs scheme for Kidney Kids NZ to support children with kidney problems, including the purchase of dialysis machines.
There is a drop-off bucket for these items at the Council customer service centre (110 Trafalgar Street), or you can collect your own and drop them off to our local Lions Club, just email firstname.lastname@example.org. Collection cans are also available through Resene Paints – request a can for your business, group, school or club at www.resene.co.nz/comn/whtsnew/kantabs.htm
