Dangerous and Insanitary Buildings

The Earthquake- prone, Dangerous and Insanitary Buildings Policy 2006 has to be amended to align with the new legislation, Building (Earthquake-prone buildings) amendment Act 2016, which commenced on 1 July 2017. Refer to the policy below.

The key change this amended legislation brings is the original policy no longer needs to cover earthquake-prone buildings. As such it is only required to cover dangerous and insanitary buildings under section 124 of the Building Act 2004.

Accordingly, the original policy has now been amended to remove all references to earthquake-prone buildings.

There will be a further special consultative process undertaken in May 2018 to amend the current Dangerous and Insanitary Building Policy to include Affected buildings which is now required under the Building Act 2004.
