In the August 2022 weather event, significant damage occurred to the region's reserve and track network. The good news is the vast majority of recreation areas are now open!
Please respect the remaining closures and do not venture beyond taped areas.

- Botanical Hill Reserve/Centre of NZ. Most tracks are open here - please see Track Closure Maps above for details. Works on the Sir Stanley Whitehead Track are now complete, allowing full access from Walters Bluff and Atawhai Drive through to Centre of NZ.
- Codgers. Most trails in Codgers are now open. Work to remediate the significant slip areas on Hulkin’ Hogan is almost complete, and Koata Whetu track is in line for a full Geotech assessment in the near future. - Coppermine Trail. Open from Brook St through to Four Corners, and Third House through to the Maitai Dam. Due to significant storm damage, closures are still in place between Four Corners and Third House, and the dam and the exit of 629. Detours are available up the Brook Sanctuary fenceline and via Maitai Valley Road. A recreation bridge to span Maitai pipeline washout will be airlifted into place during March. Remediation options for the two slips between Four Corners and Third House are being considered.
- Fringed Hill/Ngāti Koata whenua. Most Fringed Hill trials are available to ride. Please see the NMTBC updates page for further details, or visit Trailforks
- Grampians. The Grampians are now fully open.
- Maitai Valley Walkway. Now open from Clouston's Bridge all the way through to the arboretum footbridge upstream of the Maitai Camp. The trail is very narrow on the rocky section before the Golf Course – cyclists please dismount and give way to pedestrians. Section from Nile St to Clouston Bridge remains closed, however access to Girlies Hole is open from the Nile Street entrance.
- Marsden Valley. Glider Rd is open, along with all connecting trials including Involution. Piwakawaka Track remains closed due to a compromised bridge structure requiring remedial works.
- Pipers Reserve. Firebreak track from Observatory Tce is open to allow for a loop track using the zig-zag from Nth Princes Dr. Open through Bob’s Bush. The track starting opposite the Tamaki steps is now open however, will require closure in the future to complete significant drainage works. Kokopu Track remains closed due to complex remedial works including resource consent and will be managed by the Capital Projects team as capacity allows.
- Sir Stanley Whitehead Reserve. Now fully open.
- Maungatapu Track. - This track is temporarily open to walkers and mountain bikers until further notice. Further storm damage work is yet to be completed so no motorbike or vehicle access at this stage. A further full closure will be required once contractor work can be scheduled.
- Waahi Taakaro Golf Course. All 18 holes are now playable. Seed is being sowed next week on fairways eight and nine. Work is currently underway to clear the built-up flood debris in the river.
- Marsden Valley Cemetery: Contractors will be working onsite in the coming weeks to repair the flood-damaged road including the installation of a new curb and gutter. Access will be limited by car however, interments will still go ahead as planned.
